CFATS Update — From the SVA to the SSP

The Department of Homeland Security Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) rule (6 CFR Part 27) required more than 42,000 facilities handling certain chemicals to meet rigid notification and compliance requirements. From this group, nearly 7,000 facilities were preliminarily tiered by DHS as "high risk chemical sites," were required to complete Security Vulnerability Assessments (SVAs), and are now awaiting final tiering designations. Based on their final tier rankings, many of these companies will be required to complete and submit to DHS Site Security Plans (SSPs).

• What to expect following DHS's review of a facility's SVA;
