Energy and Power M&A Drives $28 Billion in Offerings for Hunton Capital Markets Team
Over the past year, a substantial increase in M&A activity in the power and energy industries has helped drive a healthy pace of capital markets activity. Lawyers in the power and energy capital markets practice at Hunton & Williams LLP have been involved in over 20 capital markets transactions related to the financing of energy and power assets. The proceeds of the capital markets transactions totaled in excess of $28 billion.
Included among these transactions on which Hunton was involved, either as issuer or underwriters’ counsel, are financings in connection with:
- Wisconsin Energy Corporation’s acquisition of Integrys Energy Group, Inc.
- Duke Energy Corporation’s acquisition of Piedmont Natural Gas Company, Inc.
- The Southern Company’s acquisition of AGL Resources Inc.
- Emera Incorporated’s acquisition of TECO Energy, Inc.
- NextEra Energy, Inc.’s proposed acquisition of Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC and
- Great Plains Energy Incorporated’s proposed acquisition of Westar Energy, Inc.
- Consolidated Edison, Inc.’s joint venture with Crestwood Equity Partners LP
The power and energy capital markets group consists of approximately 20 lawyers, who act as either issuer’s or underwriter’s counsel for over fifty energy companies, utility holding companies and utilities. The power and energy capital markets group― a subgroup of the firm’s energy and infrastructure practice ― focuses principally on trends and developments in the power and energy industry.
