Hunton Andrews Kurth Fosters Relationships with Law Schools Through Summer Associate Diversity Hackathon Competition

Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP hosted “A Day in the Life of a Big Law Attorney”, a panel event at The College of William & Mary aimed at building and strengthening relationships with affinity groups at law schools. The panel was inspired by winning ideas from the 2020 firm-wide summer associate Hackathon, a brainstorming competition challenging associates to develop innovative strategies that foster a diverse and inclusive professional community.

“A Day in the Life of a Big Law Attorney” initiated a conversation between law students and Hunton Andrews Kurth lawyers discussing the day-to-day details of big law attorneys and their career paths. The event was designed to help students navigate their legal education and futures in the law industry. Attorneys Rudene Mercer Haynes,  Ryan Glasgow, Alyson Brown, Merideth Daly, and Shannon Daily spoke to The College of William & Mary law students on-campus.

“The narratives and experiences we shared with the students not only provided a glimpse into the inclusive culture of Hunton Andrews Kurth, but also gave an idea of what their future might look like after law school,” said Rudene Mercer Haynes, a Firm-wide Hiring Partner. “We are eager to continue this dialogue with the students and support their journey to success.”

The panel event was a part of targeted outreach to minority law students at William & Mary Law School, the University of Texas School of Law, and Howard University School of Law based on the ideas of summer associates who participated in the summer Hackathon. The firm also engages former summer associates currently attending these schools by soliciting their help with networking and brand awareness. These initiatives reflect the firm’s commitment to amplifying diversity and inclusion in the legal industry while cultivating engagement with the next generation of leaders.
