Hunton & Williams Advises on The Southern Company $750 Million Aggregate Principal Amount of Senior Notes Offerings

Hunton & Williams LLP advised Barclays Capital Inc., Citigroup Global Markets Inc., J.P. Morgan Securities LLC and UBS Securities LLC, as representatives of underwriters on SEC-registered offerings by The Southern Company (“Southern”) of $400 million aggregate principal amount of its senior notes due 2017 and $350 million aggregate principal amount of its senior notes due 2019.

Southern was incorporated under the laws of Delaware on November 9, 1945. Southern is domesticated under the laws of Georgia and is qualified to do business as a foreign corporation under the laws of Alabama. Southern owns all of the outstanding common stock of Alabama Power Company, Georgia Power Company, Gulf Power Company, and Mississippi Power Company, each of which is an operating public utility company. The traditional operating companies supply electric service in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi. In addition, Southern owns all of the common stock of Southern Power Company, which is also an operating public utility company.
