Hunton & Williams LLP Continues Expansion of Los Angeles Office with Another New Environmental Partner
Burton comes to the firm from Bingham McCutchen LLP, where he was partner. He has broad experience in all aspects of environmental law, including water, waste and air permitting, transactional due diligence, and defense of federal and state enforcement actions. His client base spans a variety of industries, and includes both North American companies as well as those from Europe and Asia. Burton assists clients with the acquisition of multiple manufacturing and distribution assets throughout the United States, and in the development and implementation of environmental management systems. In addition to pre-acquisition due diligence, he routinely counsels clients on issues related to recently acquired industrial facilities, including associated permitting, regulatory compliance, and inherited enforcement proceedings. He also advises clients regarding climate change, carbon emission reduction and renewable energy projects domestically and abroad.
“Hunton & Williams recognizes the growing and complex environmental needs of our clients,” said Ann Marie Mortimer, managing partner of the firm’s LA office. “Scott’s move to the firm, along with the recent arrival of Chris and Malcolm, reinforces our dedication to environmental issues and to making Hunton & Williams a leader for environmental law in California and the Pacific Rim.”
Burton earned his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from UC Irvine and received his law degree from UCLA School of Law. He is admitted to practice in California and is a member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, Environmental Committee and Energy & Natural Resources Committee; National Brownfields Association; LA County Bar Association, Environment Section; California Mining Association/CAL-CIMA; Editorial Board, Environmental Liability, Enforcement & Penalties Reporter, (2006-2007); and The Asia Society.
