WASHINGTONApril 13, 2012 — Hunton & Williams LLP's Washington-based lawyers Karma Brown, Colleen Heisey, and Ryan Shores were named "Rising Stars" by Law360 in its annual profiles of lawyers under the age of 40, selected based on the strength of their accomplishments in their respective practice groups. Law360 received more than 1000 submissions for its Rising Stars series.

Karma Brown was selected in environmental for her work in influential Clean Water Act-related disputes with the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, such as her victory in overturning an agency rule affecting more than 53 million acres of cropland in the United States that would have had a significant impact on the value of vast portions of agricultural land across the country. Hunton & Williams' environmental lawyers represent industrial and municipal clients and their trade associations at the federal, state and local levels. She was one of only five lawyers selected in this category.

Colleen Heisey was chosen in health care for helping to build the firm's food and drug practice and for her work in some of the "biggest battles in the food and drug field." Heisey, for example, used her legal training and background in science to engineer an effort that resulted in a rare victory through the enforcement arm of the FDA that regulates drug marketing and advertising. The firm's food and drug lawyers provide legal and regulatory assistance to small growth companies and large multinational corporations regarding products regulated by the FDA. She was one of only four lawyers selected in this category.

Ryan Shores was named in competition law. Since joining the firm after a clerkship with Chief Justice Rehnquist, Ryan has handled numerous high-profile antitrust actions. Most recently, Ryan helped to defeat certification of two putative classes in an antitrust price-fixing action and helped to gain complete dismissal of antitrust claims based on the state action immunity doctrine in another putative class action. The firm's competition team regularly represents companies in high-stakes antitrust litigation, in merger review, and in government investigations. He was one of only five lawyers selected in this category.
