Los Angeles Times Recognizes Two Hunton Andrews Kurth Attorneys as Diversity & Inclusion Visionaries
Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that partners Jane Hinton and Emily Burkhardt Vicente were recently honored as Diversity & Inclusion Visionaries in The Los Angeles Times’ second annual Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility magazine. The magazine recognizes the region’s diverse business leaders who inspire change – those who exhibit achievements both within their organizations and the community at large through actionable programs and initiatives impacting diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
As the Office Diversity and Inclusion Initiative Leader for the firm’s Los Angeles office, Hinton has worked to promote engagement opportunities and educational programs on diversity with the goal of fostering greater awareness and understanding of important issues on social justice and racial and gender equality and promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion within the firm. She is also the point-of-contact for the Los Angeles Office Women’s Mentoring Circle and has arranged several networking events as well as more formal training on quick elevator pitches that women in law can use for value propositioning and career advancement. With a passion to support diversity at all levels within the real estate industry and to be reflective of the community in which she practices law, Hinton has participated in the highly acclaimed Project Destined program, a firm partnership that brings together underprivileged diverse youth with leading executives to evaluate live real estate deals in their community and present them in a pitch competition. She has participated as a judge in the LA competition and coached the JP Morgan youth team to its summer 2020 win. This year, the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 2022 Diversity & Inclusion Awards recognized Hinton as a nominee for Best Diversity & Inclusion Executive of the Year. Furthermore, The Los Angeles Times’ Commercial Real Estate magazine recognized her as one of their 2022 Visionaries, which recognizes “noteworthy senior-level executives” within the commercial real estate sector who are impacting change through “their successes and accomplishments in the last year on projects and deals closed… and their exemplary leadership within their organizations and communities.”
As co-chair of the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Vicente is dedicated to the promotion, retention and advancement of diverse lawyers and staff within the firm and community. Along with her co-chairs, in 2020 Vicente established a firm goal of 100% full-time lawyer participation in activities that advance diversity and inclusion, and helped support the firm in achieving this goal for the last two years. She also played a key role in establishing the firm’s Racial Equality and Social Justice Resource Center, which is available to all firm lawyers and staff, and includes a growing collection of reading and audio-visual materials with the goal of fostering greater awareness, education, and understanding on these important issues. Additionally, as co-chair of the firm’s labor and employment team, Vicente uses her leadership role to promote, advocate for and advance the women and diverse lawyers on her team, and works to ensure these attorneys receive equal access to client pitch responses. As part of her counseling practice, Vicente works with Fortune 100 companies on the design and implementation of diversity and inclusion programs and ESG initiatives to raise awareness and help promote the development and advancement of women and diverse individuals within corporate America. The Los Angeles Times’ Business of Law: Trends, Updates and Visionaries magazine also recognized Vicente as a Visionary in 2021-2022, which features “California-licensed in-house counsel and firm lawyers who are impacting change… and have demonstrated noteworthy success and accomplishments.” Additionally, the Los Angeles Business Journal recognized her in 2022 among its Leaders of Influence: Labor and Employment Attorneys in Los Angeles, and shortlisted Vicente for the LABJ’s Best Diversity & Inclusion Executive of the Year, 2021.
