Chamber Calls on SEC to Reform Use of In-House Judges
Investment News ǀ July 15, 2015
The recommendations contained in the report released by the US Chamber of Commerce has led to a debate on whether the recommendations would weaken the SEC’s ability to protect investors or make SEC enforcement more efficient. Scott Kimpel explains that the SEC is “a market regulator that has enforcement powers,” as opposed to being viewed as “the cop on the securities market beat.” Kimpel, a partner in the Washington office, previously served as counsel to former US Securities and Exchange Commissioner Troy A. Paredes, advising the commissioner on all aspects of federal securities laws and SEC policy.
