Update on Children’s Privacy and FTC’s COPPA enforcement, an audio presentation

Competition lawyer Phyllis Marcus spoke with Markus Heyder, vice president and senior policy counselor, Centre for Information Policy Leadership, during CIPL’s “First Friday Call” on December 11, 2015.

The former Chief of Staff of the Division of Advertising Practices at the Federal Trade Commission discussed the development of children’s privacy guidelines; explained the FTC’s current approach and awareness of developments in the ambient world; and cautioned that businesses need to be more aware — and cautious — about security aspects affecting data protection and student privacy, including photograph, video, and audio files that may be gathered by connected devices or toys.
