March 2017 Visa Bulletin—Updates and Projections for Employment-Based Categories

Below is a summary of the March 2017 Visa Bulletin, including Final Action Dates and changes from the previous month for employment-based categories:

  • China continues to move forward at a slow pace, and the EB-3 cut-off date (March 15, 2014) remains ahead of the EB-2 date (December 15, 2012)
  • India EB-2 advances two months to June 1, 2008, while EB-3 remains stalled at March 22, 2005
  • Philippines EB-3 jumps ahead five months to March 15, 2012
  • Worldwide EB-3 moves forward two months to December 1, 2016
The March Visa Bulletin includes the following important projections for future movement:
  • China and India EB-1 will most likely have cut-off dates by August
  • India EB-2 is projected to move forward up to a month at a time
  • India EB-3 is expected to have “extremely limited forward movement”
  • China EB-2 will advance several weeks each month
  • China EB-2 is expected to continue to outpace the EB-3 category, jumping ahead six months each month
  • Worldwide EB-3 is expected to move forward three months at a time

The State Department has published the January Visa Bulletin.  In most cases, advances in priority dates are even greater than they were in December, ranging from 1 week for All Other Countries EB-3 Professionals to 1 full year for China EB-3 Other Workers.  Moreover, USCIS will continue using the Dates for Filing chart in January, allowing from 2 to 10 months of additional filing time, depending on nationality and category, with India the clear front-runner here.
