The purpose of this session is to highlight the legal characterizations of when a service provider is an employee, as opposed to an independent contractor and vice versa. Different scenarios will be discussed, including legal principles relating to general state employment issues, federal income tax issues and ERISA issues. In addition, this presentation will cover governance controls that should be in place to help avoid employment misclassification issues.
