American Bar Association Selects Andrea DeField and Latosha Ellis as Young Lawyers on the Rise
Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that partner, Andrea DeField, and counsel, Latosha Ellis, were named to the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Young Lawyers Division 2022 On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyer. The award honors the nation’s most promising lawyers, under the age of 40 or who have been licensed for 10 years or less, who have wielded influence and are excelling in their practice areas. Recipients are considered innovators who have demonstrated strong leadership abilities, knowledge in litigation or transactional work and committed themselves to pro bono, charitable or professional volunteer work, all while making a lasting impact in their respective field.
As co-lead of the firm’s cyber insurance practice group, DeField counsels policyholder clients on all types of insurance policies and coverage issues, with a focus on insurance for cyber risks (including ransomware, large scale data breach, and social engineering claims). She also has experience advising clients on directors and officers liability and professional liability insurance issues; hurricane claims; and commercial general liability insurance disputes, including those arising out of construction defect claims, wrongful death, and pollution incidents. In 2021 alone, she recovered more than $120 million for policyholder clients. DeField is a prolific author and lecturer on insurance and risk management topics, presenting at education seminars, bar association conferences, and industry and client events nationwide, and in the past year, she has also been featured as a 2022 Insurance Rising Star by Law360, a Rising Star for Insurance by Legal 500, a Legal Elite Up & Comer by Florida Trend and “One to Watch” by The Best Lawyers in America.
As counsel in the firm’s insurance practice, Ellis regularly advises and represents clients on all major forms of insurance coverage with a focus on cyber, employment practices liability and professional liability insurance. She is an accomplished author and lecturer on insurance and risk management topics and has presented at numerous education seminars, bar association conferences and industry and client events throughout the country. Ellis is active in the American Bar Association and currently serves as Treasurer of the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia, where she previously served as Treasurer-Elect (2021-2022) and Secretary (2020-2021). She also serves as a mentor to young lawyers both within and beyond the firm as a board member of the University of Richmond Law School Alumni Board. Ellis’s other recognitions include being named a 2021 Break Out Award Winner by Business Insurance, a 2020 Up & Coming Lawyer by Virginia Lawyers Weekly, the firm’s 2019 Pathfinder for the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity and a 2019 Top 40 Under 40 Lawyer in Washington, D.C. by The National Black Lawyers.
