Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is proud to announce that partners Shannon S. Broome and Ann Marie Mortimer have been recognized among the 2022 Top 100 Lawyers in California by the Daily Journal. This West Coast ranking spotlights just 100 lawyers from throughout California who are practicing and barred in the state and have made a difference to their clients, their firms and their profession.

Broome is the managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office, leads the California environmental practice and co-leads the firm’s Environmental, Social and Governance practice. She is frequently sought by Fortune 50 energy and manufacturing companies for her litigation and negotiation skills and has nearly 30 years of experience challenging and defending EPA and California regulations, defending enforcement actions before federal, state, and appellate courts and agencies, and obtaining complex permits from federal and state agencies. This year in particular, Broome was recognized for her lead representation of Texas Oil and Gas Association regarding the Biden administration’s proposed changes to methane regulation, as well as several major cases brought before the US Supreme Court and US Court of Appeals. This is the fourth time in recent years that Broome has been selected to the Daily Journal’s Top 100 Lawyers list and her sixth year of selection to the Daily Journal’s Top Women Lawyers list (announced in May).

Mortimer is founder and managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office, head of the firm’s Commercial Litigation practice and a member of the firm’s executive committee. A strategic problem solver and litigator focused on achieving business results in complex, high-stakes cases, Mortimer is at the forefront of novel cybersecurity litigation and has an established track record of attaining precedent-setting results for global brands. A particular highlight recognized this year is Mortimer’s significant victory for a prominent retailer in a high-stakes class action (cited as a 2021 Law360 Cybersecurity & Privacy Case to Watch) involving multiple prominent retailers. The court dismissed all plaintiffs’ causes of action with prejudice, with the exception of a lone invasion of privacy claim. In the order of dismissal, the court cited a pivotal victory Mortimer obtained as lead counsel for another client just one year earlier, one of the first decisions dismissing a CCPA claim. This is her second time being named to the Daily Journal’s Top 100 Lawyers list. In recent years, she’s also been selected to the publication’s Top Women Lawyers four times, earned the Top Defense Verdict recognition in California last year and has been honored as Top Cyber Lawyers in California twice.
