Hunton Andrews Kurth a Key Supporter of Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy Building Fund
Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP has pledged significant support for the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy’s purchase of a new office building to accommodate its expanding staff and operations.
The firm plans to contribute $125,000 over a five-year period to fund the new building for the nonprofit civil legal assistance organization, which serves children and families, immigrants, seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans in the Charlotte and Mecklenburg County area who need but are unable to afford legal services. The new office in East Charlotte is expected to open later in 2021.
“Hunton Andrews Kurth has been a longstanding partner with the CCLA and our clients in providing pro bono advocacy to those in need in our community,” said Charlotte office pro bono committee chair Robert J. Hahn, a former CCLA board member and longtime volunteer. “Our support for the Building Fund campaign is a continuation of our strong and enduring relationship with the center.”
For several years, Hunton Andrews Kurth lawyers in Charlotte, led by Melissa A. Romanzo and including Emma Claire Merritt and others, have partnered with a major financial services client’s in-house lawyers to volunteer their assistance to CCLA clients with disabilities with applying for Medicaid health coverage and appealing denial of applications for assistance. In other pro bono efforts, Jonathan H. Kim has worked with clients on expungements, and a number of firm lawyers have assisted clients in efforts to secure Social Security disability benefits.
With more than 50 years of providing legal advice and representation, CCLA is a champion for those in need of safety, security and stability, providing legal services to indigent and lower-income clients in the areas of health care, immigration and public benefits.
