The Independent Bankers Association of Texas has honored Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP partner Peter G. Weinstock by adding him to their Wall of Heroes and Legends, a special place in its headquarters with the purpose of recognizing exceptional leaders. The IBAT notes that “there are few people that encompass the holistic spirit of community banking. A person who dedicated his time to helping boost an industry through strategic initiatives, education, and legal representation. Someone who beats the drum for regulatory initiatives and helps institutions to find the right path for long-term viability” as just a few of the characteristics they seek in choosing an honoree.

“We find it a great privilege to recognize someone in the industry who has lived these values and gone above and beyond for our banks. We are pleased to recognize Peter G. Weinstock, who exemplifies the vision for the future of community banking, while defending its great strength and history,” said the IBAT (images from the ceremony can be accessed here).

Weinstock’s contributions to the IBAT have been immense, and include acts such as writing articles for IBAT publications, giving speeches at IBAT events, serving on the IBAT lawyer panel at the Annual IBAT Convention on multiple occasions and serving as a member of the IBAT Community Bank Charter Task Force and the ICBA’s General Counsels’ Advisory Group.

On top of his outstanding contributions to the community banking community, Weinstock is a celebrated and accomplished lawyer practicing for Hunton Andrews Kurth. During the past several years, Weinstock has devoted substantial time to strategic planning, bank compensation, fintech and banking as a service, capital and liquidity planning, credit-related issues and defense of enforcement matters, including concerning fair lending and BSA. He is Co-Practice Group Leader of the Financial Institutions Section. He has counseled institutions on more than 400 M&A transactions, hundreds of securities offerings, including over a dozen IPOs, and capital planning, over 50 de novo banks and hundreds of administrative and other enforcement actions. He has lectured at hundreds of trade group and industry functions, including as a guest lecturer for Harvard’s Kennedy School of Public Policy in Beijing, China in 2017 and 2018.
