Hunton & Williams LLP Adds Senior SEC Counsel Scott H. Kimpel to National Corporate Practice
WASHINGTON — September 4, 2012 — Hunton & Williams LLP continues the expansion of its national corporate practice with the arrival of Scott H. Kimpel as a partner in the Washington office. Prior to joining the firm, Kimpel served as Counsel to Commissioner Troy A. Paredes of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
"Scott's experience will be an advantage for our public company and emerging growth clients who need sophisticated securities advice and insights into SEC policies, procedures, operations and enforcement," said Steve Patterson, co-head of the firm's corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions practice.
In his position at the SEC, Kimpel served as Commissioner Paredes’ liaison to the Commission's senior staff as well as external constituencies, including issuers and other SEC registrants, investors, press, members of Congress and trade associations. Kimpel advised the Commissioner on all aspects of the federal securities laws and SEC policy across all SEC divisions and offices, focusing especially on the Division of Corporation Finance and the Division of Enforcement. He also was involved in ongoing financial regulatory reform efforts, including the SEC's response to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform legislation and the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act. Prior to the SEC, Kimpel practiced for 10 years at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
Kimpel graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and received his J.D. with honors from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, where he served as managing editor of the SMU Law Review and Journal of Air Law and Commerce.
The Hunton & Williams corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions practice includes securities, financings, capital markets and corporate governance matters. The firm has a history of representing issuers, investors and underwriters in a wide range of public and private offerings of equity and debt securities.
