Hunton & Williams LLP Partner R. Hewitt Pate Named General Counsel of Chevron Corporation

Washington— July 29, 2009 — Hunton & Williams LLP congratulates R. Hewitt Pate on his appointment as the Vice President and General Counsel of Chevron Corporation. Outgoing head of Hunton & Williams' global competition practice group and former US Justice Department Antitrust Division Assistant Attorney General, Pate will direct the worldwide legal affairs of one of the world’s largest and most respected corporations.

Pate has been a partner in the firm's Washington D.C. office since 2005, when he left the Justice Department. He served in the Antitrust Division from 2001 to 2005, first as Deputy Assistant Attorney General and then as Acting Assistant Attorney General before his confirmation by the Senate as Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Antitrust Division.

Prior to joining the Justice Department, Pate practiced at Hunton & Williams from 1990 to 2001. In 1999, he was an Ewald Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia School of Law. Before joining Hunton & Williams, Pate clerked for Justices Lewis F. Powell Jr. and Anthony M. Kennedy of the U.S. Supreme Court, and for Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
