Hunton & Williams LLP Partner Rudene Mercer Haynes Named Among Virginia's Most Influential Women

RICHMOND, Va. — March 18, 2011 — Hunton & Williams LLP is pleased to announce Rudene Mercer Haynes, a partner in the Richmond office, has been named among Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s 2011 "Influential Women of Virginia." The award, which was established in 2009, recognizes the outstanding efforts of women in the Commonwealth in all fields, including law, business, health care, education and the arts. The honors are given to individuals who are making notable contributions to their chosen professions, their communities and society at large.

Haynes focuses her practice on corporate finance transactions and is involved in many matters that are helping to push the economy forward. She serves as the lead Hunton & Williams partner advising a firm client in its multiclass and mortgage-backed securities programs. Haynes manages a team of 15 attorneys from several Hunton & Williams offices to handle 15-17 transactions per month for this client.

Recognized as a 2007 Virginia Rising Star by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine, Haynes serves as co-chair of the firm's Diversity Programming Committee and the University of Texas Law School Campus Recruiting Initiative. She has served for several years as a panelist for the Careers in Law Segment for the Mid-Atlantic Black Law Students Association Conference. She currently chairs the Governance Committee at William Byrd Community House, an organization dedicated to transforming the lives of individuals and families through building self-sufficiency. Haynes has also served as a member on the board for St. Andrew's School, a private tuition-free school that educates children of limited resources. Haynes was recently selected to participate in the national Leadership Council on Legal Diversity's newly launched Fellows Program. The unique mentoring program, designed to enhance the careers of high-potential attorneys from diverse backgrounds, provides opportunities for more than 100 "fellows" to connect with and learn from the law firm managing partners and corporate general counsel who make up the LCLD's membership.
