WASHINGTON — July 14, 2011 — Hunton & Williams LLP is pleased to announce its McLean office, along with ExxonMobil, received the Pro Bono Firm of the Year Award from Legal Services of Northern Virginia, in recognition of the firms' two year old corporate pro bono partnership. Working together ExxonMobil and Hunton & Williams provide elder law counseling and domestic violence representation. Since inception of the partnership, it has provided critical estate planning documents for more than 50 clients, and protection from domestic violence for more than 25 clients. Leaders of the partnership also took an active role in changing Virginia law to increase access to pro bono services by amending the corporate counsel rules.

The award was presented at LSNV's annual pro bono reception, held this year at the George Mason School of Law on June 7. Scott Yarnell, partner and chair of the firm's McLean pro bono committee, Lindsay Velarde, who coordinates the domestic violence program, and Pam Walker, who helps administer the Wills Clinic, were on hand to receive the award on behalf of Hunton & Williams. They were joined by ExxonMobil's Judi Glaubig, General Counsel for Downstream Companies, Andy Fisher, Fairfax Office Pro Bono Chair, Karen Moreno, counsel, Dell Timis, administrative manager, and MaryAnn Krause, paralegal, who accepted the award on behalf of its legal department.

Hunton & Williams continues to lead the way in community service in the United States and its tradition of pro bono service is well recognized. During the firm's last two fiscal years, 100 percent of its U.S. lawyers have participated in pro bono matters. Hunton & Williams received a National Law Journal 2011 Pro Bono Award for its work for Haiti immigration relief with Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services; the Florida Supreme Court’s 2010 Chief Justice's Law Firm Commendation Award for the firm's commitment to provide access to the courts for all Floridians; the 2010 Beacon of Justice Award from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association for immigration work; the Pro Bono Institute's 2009 Pickering Award; and the American Bar Association's 1999 Pro Bono Publico Award.
