Hunton & Williams LLP's Art Schmalz Named Among 2011 Leaders in the Law by Virginia Lawyers Weekly

McLean, Va. — August 24, 2011 — Hunton & Williams LLP proudly announces Arthur E. Schmalz, a partner in its McLean office, was selected by Virginia Lawyers Media for its Leaders in the Law Class of 2011, which recognizes lawyers across the Commonwealth for accomplishments who inspire their fellow members of the bar. After an open nomination process, Leaders in the Law were selected for their knowledge and integrity in the legal profession, and involvement within their communities. Honorees will be profiled in a special feature in Virginia Lawyers Weekly in early October, and will be acknowledged at Virginia Lawyers Media's sixth annual awards ceremony on Oct. 20 at the Science Museum of Virginia, in Richmond.

"Art has made an impact at every level of his legal career from law school to his legal career as a commercial litigator, to his notable public service endeavors," wrote Stephen Sayers, who nominated Schmalz and who heads the complex commercial litigation practice within the McLean office.

Schmalz has an extensive career in commercial litigation and in state and federal courts in Virginia. He has been honored by the George Mason Law Review by the creation of the annual Arthur Schmalz Award for Student Writing (2007); selected as a Washington area Top Lawyer in Washingtonian magazine (2004 and 2007); named as among Virginia's Legal Elite by Virginia Business magazine (2004-2005); and selected as a Virginia Super Lawyer since 2006.

In the community, Schmalz recently completed a year as the chairman of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria's Board of Trustees; and formerly served as an elected member of the Alexandria City School Board and an appointed member of the Alexandria/Arlington School Readiness Council, the Alexandria City Public Schools Code of Conduct Review Panel, and Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Search Citizen Advisory Committee.
