Law360 Selects Shannon Broome Among Environmental MVPs for 2025
Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is proud to announce that Partner Shannon S. Broome has been named a Law360 Environmental MVP for 2025. The award highlights standout attorneys who “have distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned success in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters, and record-breaking deals.”
Among other accomplishments, Broome earned her spot as one of Law360’s Environmental MVPs by helping clients obtain the first pathway approval for synthetic e-fuel under California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard program and prevail in a key dispute over industrial boiler emission regulations. This was a significant victory that set a precedent for future Clean Air Act litigation and had a landmark impact for Broome’s clients. She also marked a significant victory in challenging an EPA regulation that would have imposed unreasonable air emission standards on industry boiler operations across the country, in one of the first environmental decisions out of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit after the Supreme Court overturned the Chevron doctrine and adopted the approach set forth in the Loper-Bright case.
Broome started her career as a chemical engineer and worked on environmental projects for an oil and gas company in California before attending law school. She graduated just as major Clean Air Act amendments were enacted. Today, Broome is the managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office. She leads the California environmental practice and co-leads the nationwide environmental, social, and governance practice. She focuses her work on permitting, enforcement, litigation, climate change, ESG compliance and climate disclosures, and regulatory advocacy for clients in a variety of manufacturing and energy sectors, including oil and gas, renewable energy, chemical, paper, and automotive. Broome is often sought by Fortune 50 oil, gas, and manufacturing companies for her litigation and negotiation skills and has 35 years of experience challenging and defending EPA and California regulations, defending enforcement actions before federal, state, and appellate courts and agencies, and obtaining complex permits from federal and state agencies.
Broome is one of only four lawyers recognized nationally as an Environmental MVP by Law360, which awards MVP status in each of the 35 practice areas.
