Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that it was recently recognized by Legalweek as a Innovations in Pro Bono finalist at the publication’s Leaders in Tech Law Awards. The Innovations in Pro Bono award recognizes the law firms that, either through collaboration or the use of technology, are making an impact in the community through pro bono efforts.

The firm was recognized in particular for its role in facilitating the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program’s (DVAP) Virtual Clinics. In collaboration with the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, the firm helped virtually replicate monthly legal aid intake clinics that had been shuttered due to the pandemic, bringing much-needed access to legal resources back to the underserved segments of the Dallas population that the clinics aided. While the Virtual Clinics arose out of need, thanks to the technological advances, efficiencies and flexibilities that they offer, DVAP’s most recent data shows that the Virtual Clinics continue to be the preferred method of access to legal services for their those they serve. The Virtual Clinics have helped process over 15,000 applications for assistance and held over a 160 sessions to date. The project was led by partner and Dallas pro bono committee chair Fawaz Bham and includes an additional 36 firm attorneys who have volunteered their time with the DVAP Virtual Clinics since 2020.

The firm, along with other honorees, was recognized at an awards ceremony on January 29. A full list of finalists and winners can be found here.
