Industry Behavioral Advertising Proposal Prompts Mixed Reviews From Privacy Experts

A proposal by leading marketing groups to strengthen online advertising industry standards governing consumer data collection is receiving mixed reviews from privacy lawyers. Lisa Sotto, who agrees that online advertising companies have a lot of work ahead in persuading policymakers that self-regulation can work, said it's a bellwether issue for the FTC and members of Congress. Sotto, partner and head of the firm’s privacy and information management practice, focuses her practice on privacy, data security and information management issues.
