Privacy Bill Finally in Draft, as Both Sides Weigh In

A long-awaited draft of a Congressional bill would push American privacy legislation closer to the strict rules that the European Union uses, and would extend privacy protections both on the Internet and offline. Lisa J. Sotto, partner who heads the firm’s privacy and information management practice, stated that if the bill were to pass, it would be the first law that applies generally to businesses requiring privacy notice, particularly in the offline space. Sotto focuses on privacy, data security and information management issues.
