Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that partners Ann Marie Mortimer and Thomas R. Waskom have been named among the 2025 Leaders of Influence: Litigators & Trial Attorneys by the Los Angeles Business Journal. The list recognizes litigators chosen by the publication as “lawyers who go to the proverbial mat to fight for their clients before judges and jury [and] have their own unique set of skills.” Their relevant recent successes and demonstration of impact made on the profession and the Los Angeles community were factors considered when determining the honorees.

Head of the firm’s commercial litigation practice and founder and managing partner of the Los Angeles office, Mortimer is well-versed in advising high-profile clients on complex commercial litigation including data protection and compliance with regulatory mandates on privacy and data security. She was the lead lawyer defending an internet service provider in a class action lawsuit that has been deemed the largest data breach in history and was featured as lead counsel on one of the Daily Journal’s Top Defense Verdicts in California for her representation of one of the largest American multinational big box retailers in a class action lawsuit involving an alleged data privacy breach and its precedent-setting decision was one of the first dismissals of a California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) claim on the merits. Mortimer’s leadership in complex commercial litigation extends to model leadership within her firm and the community as one of only a handful of female office managing partners in California and a member of the firm’s executive committee. This is Mortimer’s seventh consecutive year named to the Leaders of Influence: Litigators & Trial Attorneys list.

Waskom is co-head of the firm’s product liability and mass tort litigation practice group. His practice focuses on class action, mass tort and environmental litigation. Waskom defends class actions and product liability cases on behalf of companies in a variety of industries, including consumer and industrial products, energy and transportation. He represents multiple Fortune 100 companies in consumer class action, mass tort, product liability and environmental litigation in trial and appellate courts across the US. He also counsels and advises clients regarding regulatory issues and risk mitigation. As co-chair of the firm’s Litigation Writing Award Committee, Waskom administers and oversees the firm’s Annual Litigation Writing Award, which was established in 2009 to recognize the best brief or legal memorandum by an associate. Outside of the office, Waskom serves as a member of the advisory board (and former board chair) for Higher Achievement, a non-profit organization providing after-school tutoring and mentoring to middle school students.
