Speaking with Real Estate Finance & Investment on the increasing trend of preferred equity deals in the current real estate market, Rori Malech notes that capital providers may favor PE deals over typical JV investments to retain control over the underlying property in the event something goes wrong. “On the pref equity spectrum, having [the investment] be more loan-like means the investor doesn’t have to jump through a lot of hoops [to get control of the property],” Rori explains.
