The Centre for Information Policy Leadership at Hunton & Williams LLP Appoints New Executive Committee

WASHINGTON — July 6, 2009 — The Centre for Information Policy Leadership at Hunton & Williams LLP today announced the election of a new Executive Committee to advise the Centre on fulfilling its mission to encourage and inform responsible information governance in today’s digital society. The Executive Committee will represent more than 40 Centre member companies from around the world.

According to the Centre's Executive Director, Martin Abrams, "the Executive Committee members are privacy leaders who bring a wealth of experience to Centre discussions. Each member will advise on specific areas of the Centre's work and provide guidance and direction as the organization grows and stakes out new initiatives."

The Committee includes:

Scott Taylor, Chief Privacy Officer, Hewlett-Packard Company. Taylor will continue his role as Chair of the Executive Committee. "As the challenges grow for strategic information management, the Centre continues to provide critical, recognized global leadership. I am proud to continue my role on the Executive Committee and work with so many distinguished colleagues."

Harriet Pearson, VP, Security Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer, IBM. Responsible for global information policies and practices that affect 330,000 employees and thousands of clients, Pearson leads the committee’s work on international information governance. "I have proudly watched the Centre influence global information during my first two years on the EC, and expect the Centre to continue to lead on issues such data transfer governance." Ms. Pearson leads the Centre’s global initiatives.

Lynn Goldstein, Senior Vice President and Chief Privacy Officer, JPMorgan Chase. Goldstein has almost 25 years of legal experience in dealing with privacy issues in the highly regulated financial services industry. "Financial services oversight will change rapidly over the next two years, and privacy will be part of that." I am very pleased to be leading the Centre’s discussions on how to maintain effective policies during this period of rapid change."

Sandy Hughes, Global Ethics, Compliance and Privacy Executive, Procter & Gamble Company. Hughes has over 30 years of experience in the industry. She is a Past-President of the International Association of Privacy Professionals ("IAPP") and has spear-headed industry efforts to create EPC and RFID guidelines for responsible use of the technology for item level tagging. At a time when information policy law and regulation is changing in North America, Europe and Asia, Hughes will lead efforts to assure the Centre communicates the impacts of new approaches on consumers and business in a very clear manner.

Barbara Lawler, Chief Privacy Officer, Intuit. Lawler is Intuit's first CPO having pioneered that role at HP as well. Lawler will lead a new working group at the Centre focused on the special information policy issues of cyber-based enterprises. "The Internet has revolutionized the marketplace for ideas, services and products, but it has also created a whole new set of risks for individuals. The Centre will explore transparency, individual control, and the prevention of social harm over the next two years."
