The FTC has the authority to punish businesses over stolen customer data, according to a recent US Circuit Court of Appeals decision in Wyndham v. FTC. Lisa Sotto tells Network World, “organizations should take steps to make sure security meets ‘reasonable industry standards.’” Sotto’s practice focuses on privacy and provides advice on cybersecurity risks.
