Hunton Advises on Georgia Power Company’s Tax-Exempt Remarketings

Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP represented the remarketing agents in connection with Georgia Power Company’s (GPC) remarketing of $46.6 million of Development Authority of Burke County Pollution Control Revenue Bonds (GPC Plant Vogtle Project), First Series 1996 (the Burke Bonds); $28.065 million of Development Authority of Monroe County Pollution Control Revenue Bonds (GPC Plan Scherer Project), Second Series 2006 (the 2006 Monroe Bonds); $89.2 million of Development Authority of Monroe County Pollution Control Revenue Bonds (GPC Plan Scherer Project), Second Series 2009 (the 2009 Monroe Bonds); $48.72 million of Development Authority of Monroe County Pollution Control Revenue Bonds (GPC Plan Scherer Project), First Series 2012 (the 2012 Monroe Bonds); and $17.5 million of Development Authority of Monroe County Pollution Control Revenue Bonds (GPC Plan Scherer Project), First Series 2013 (the 2013 Monroe Bonds and, together with the 2006 Monroe Bonds, the 2009 Monroe Bonds, and the 2012 Monroe Bonds, the Monroe Bonds).

The Burke Bonds were initially issued to refinance the acquisition, construction, installation, and equipping of the interest of GPC in certain air and water pollution control and sewage and solid waste disposal facilities located at the Vogtle steam electric generating plant in Burke County, Georgia. The Monroe Bonds were initially issued to provide funds to refinance the cost of the acquisition, construction, installation, and equipping of certain air and water pollution control and sewage and solid waste disposal facilities located at the Scherer steam electric generating plant in Monroe County, Georgia.

GPC is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Southern Company. GPC is engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, and purchase of electricity and the sale of electric service within the State of Georgia at retail in over 530 cities and towns (including Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Macon, Rome, and Savannah), as well as in rural areas and at wholesale.
