Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that the firm was recognized with the 2026 Frankie Muse Freeman Organizational Pro Bono Award by the Virginia State Bar’s Access to Legal Services Committee. This annual award celebrates a Virginia organization that provides exemplary pro bono legal services to underserved Virginians.

“It’s an honor to receive this recognition and know that the firm’s dedication to pro bono projects is truly making an impact in our community,” said Rudene Mercer Haynes, managing partner of Hunton’s Richmond office. “Our Virginia attorneys have a passion for giving back and providing equal access to justice, and they bring that into every interaction with our pro bono clients.”

Hunton has prioritized a commitment to providing pro bono services since its founding in 1901. The firm encourages individuals to provide legal representation to those in need, whether it is through local projects or partnerships with clients. The firm’s pro bono program connects its attorneys with clients seeking assistance in areas such as housing, immigration, civil rights, small business, non-profit assistance, and veterans’ issues, among others. Hunton’s Richmond office frequently partners with Central Virginia Legal Aid Society, Greater Richmond Bar Foundation, Legal Aid Justice Center, Virginia Poverty Law Center, and the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project. Additionally, the firm’s George Hettrick Community Law Center in the Church Hill neighborhood, which opened more than 30 years ago, remains an innovative approach to serving persons of limited means in its community. The office dedicates 100 percent of its resources to pro bono clients and supports overflow from local legal aid organizations. Hunton donates more than 3,000 hours to Church Hill clients each year, supporting the office with a full-time pro bono lawyer, a pro bono associate, and an office manager.
