Alex D. Pappas

Alex assists corporate and individual policyholders with complex insurance coverage matters. He works on a variety of insurance policies, including directors and officers liability, builders’ risk, errors and omissions liability, commercial general liability, and representations and warranties insurance. His clients include public companies, private equity-backed businesses, financial institutions, real estate developers, nonprofits, and directors and officers.

Alex has a dual focus on litigation and advisory work. He represents policyholders in coverage disputes in courts and arbitration forums across the country, including cases involving eight-figure recoveries. He also supports clients throughout the insurance process, from placing and negotiating policies to developing coverage strategies during investigations and disputes. He pays particular attention to maximizing recoveries and addressing new risks, especially those related to artificial intelligence and other emerging issues.

• Advises clients on available insurance coverage in connection with a diverse set of insurance policies, including directors and officers insurance, cyber insurance, general liability insurance, employment practices liability insurance, and representations and warranties insurance.
• Represented a real estate developer in an eight-figure international arbitration concerning insurance coverage under a builders’ risk insurance policy.
• Represented a translation company in a precedent-setting dispute with its insurer in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
• Represented an energy client in the litigation of pollution legal liability insurance claims about alleged environmental releases from a petroleum refinery and coverage for related class actions.
• Represented a major telecommunications company in connection with a representations and warranties insurance claim arising out of financial statements prepared out of compliance with GAAP.
• Represented a real estate developer in a multi-million-dollar litigation concerning negligent geotechnical engineering recommendations.
• Represented a leading private equity firm in connection with a representations and warranties insurance claim arising out of certain undisclosed liabilities.
• Represented a community bank in connection with coverage for confidential matters under a directors and officers liability insurance policy.
• Represented a major integrated oil company in connection with insurance coverage for various personal injury lawsuits.
• Represented an event manager concerning insurance coverage for significant underlying false advertising and unfair competition lawsuits.
• Represented a Florida nonprofit and its CEO in an insurance coverage dispute concerning an underlying federal defamation lawsuit.
