On June 12, 2019, the Belgian Data Protection Authority (the “Belgian DPA”) launched a public consultation on direct marketing with a view to updating its Recommendation No. 02/2013 of January 30, 2013 on direct marketing (the “Direct Marketing Recommendation”).

The planned Direct Marketing Recommendation update aims at supporting professionals through useful and practical information. In this context, the Belgian DPA identified two areas of inquiry in its consultation: (1) the most frequent questions and issues encountered by organizations since the GDPR became applicable and (2) the techniques and/or technologies used by data controllers to conduct direct marketing activities.

The public consultation is open until July 31, 2019.
