On July 29, 2025, the California Privacy Protection Agency (“CPPA”) announced that it had ordered Accurate Append, Inc., a Washington-based data broker, to pay a $55,400 fine and the CPPA’s attorneys’ fees and costs, in addition to injunctive relief, for failure to register as a data broker with the CPPA and pay an annual fee, as required by California’s Delete Act.

The action against Accurate Append is part of the CPPA’s investigative sweep of data brokers’ compliance with the Delete Act’s data broker registration requirements. Accurate Append allegedly did not register with the CPPA as a data broker, as is required under the Delete Act, and instead registered only after being contacted by the CPPA for alleged noncompliance.

The CPPA’s announcement states that “this settlement shows, once again, the peril faced by data brokers who fail to register,” emphasizing that the agency is “committed to bringing transparency to the data broker industry,” including through “vigorous enforcement of California’s registration requirement.”
