Time 1 Minute Read

On March 14, 2024, Bloomberg Law reported that the Federal Communications Commission adopted rules creating a voluntary cybersecurity labeling program for wireless consumer Internet of Things (“IoT”) products, as well as a further notice of proposed rulemaking that seeks comments addressing additional disclosure requirements for program participants with respect to national security.

The cybersecurity program, which has been referred to as the “U.S. Cyber Trust Mark program,” will  put a shield logo on products such as smart televisions, appliances and video doorbells that meet certain cybersecurity standards.

The notice of proposed rulemaking seeks comments addressing topics such as whether software or firmware was developed by companies in high-risk countries and whether customer data will be sent to servers in high-risk countries.

Comments on the proposed rulemaking may be submitted by following the instructions here by April 24, 2024.
