Texas Governor Signs Texas App Store Accountability Act Into Law

On May 27, 2025, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law the Texas App Store Accountability Act (TX SB 2420) (the “Act”). The Act will go into effect on January 1, 2026. 

The Act was passed by the Texas legislature on May 15, 2025.  Similar to Utah’s App Store Accountability Act (UT SB 152), the Act will require app stores like the Apple App Store and Google Play to verify the age of users downloading or purchasing apps and comply with certain requirements and restrictions with respect to minor users under the age of 18.  To read the Act’s requirements in more detail, please see our previous post.
