Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to share that the firm has been recognized as an Equal Access to Justice Champion by Houston Volunteer Lawyers (HVL), a service of the Houston Bar Association. The honor celebrates firms who have fulfilled or exceeded their pro bono pledge for the period of July 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025.

At the start of the bar year, firms, corporate legal departments and solo practitioners pledge to handle one pro bono case per every five attorneys in their Houston office. Hunton pledged to accept 40 HVL cases and completed 41 cases, contributing to the 737 pro bono clients represented through HVL in the bar year. During the reporting period, Hunton lawyers assisted clients with legal issues including divorces, wills and estates, expunctions, guardianships, name changes, housing matters and tax issues. Hunton also dedicated 172 hours to HVL’s LegalLine program, an opportunity for individuals seeking civil legal help to receive legal advice from pro bono attorneys, and clinics.

Hunton has prioritized a commitment to providing pro bono services since its founding in 1901. The firm encourages individual dedication to providing legal representation to those in need within our communities, whether it is through local projects or partnerships with clients. As evidence of the firm’s emphasis on and commitment to pro bono, associates and paralegals receive billable hour credits for up to 100 hours of pro bono time. In the most recent fiscal year, Hunton globally donated 48,285 pro bono hours and achieved its 16th consecutive year of 100% participation in pro bono projects by full-time U.S. attorneys. Additionally, the firm has 32 continuous years of meeting or exceeding the Pro Bono Institute's Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge of donating at least three percent of its annual billable hours to pro bono service.
