Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is proud to begin its 125th year by highlighting its longstanding commitment to pro bono and reaffirming its dedication to expanding access to justice in the communities it serves. The firm closed its most recent fiscal year ending on March 31 with 44,970 total pro bono hours contributed by more than 850 attorneys and staff globally. This marks the 17th consecutive year that 100% of the firm’s full-time U.S. attorneys participated in pro bono projects.

“We are proud of our commitment to giving back to our local communities in meaningful ways,” said Hunton Managing Partner Sam Danon. “Pro bono service is a core value of the firm, and our attorneys have embraced and expanded our pro bono program, developing impactful initiatives and carrying a culture of service into every area of the firm.”

Hunton has a strong tradition of supporting its communities through pro bono service. The firm encourages individuals to provide legal representation to those in need, whether it is through local projects or partnerships with clients. Hunton frequently collaborates with The National Veterans Legal Services Program, Lawyers for Good Government, Human Rights First, Kids in Need of Defense, the Human Trafficking Legal Center, the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance, and the International Refugee Assistance Project, and many other organizations. The firm’s pro bono program connects its attorneys with clients seeking assistance in areas such as housing, immigration, civil rights, small business, non-profit assistance, and veterans’ issues, among others. As evidence of the firm’s emphasis on and commitment to pro bono, associates and paralegals receive billable hour credits for up to 150 hours of pro bono time.

Importantly, this year marks 33 continuous years of meeting or exceeding the Pro Bono Institute's (PBI) Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge® by donating at least three percent of its annual billable hours to pro bono service. The Challenge began with a bold vision from PBI founders to embrace pro bono as a core institutional value and not only a responsibility of individual lawyers. Hunton was one of 48 law firms that joined PBI in pledging firmwide commitment to pro bono as charter signatories in 1993, and the firm has consistently been among the leading signatories in exceeding the challenge criteria.

“Our attorneys have an immense sense of pride and purpose in caring for our communities,” said Fawaz Bham, partner and chair of Hunton’s pro bono committee. “As we reflect on the lasting impact we’ve been fortunate to make over the past 125 years, we also look forward with a renewed commitment to serving those who need us most. The practice of law is a service to society, and Hunton remains dedicated to providing equal access to justice for our underserved communities.”
