Overview
With a presence in the Asia-Pacific region since 1994, lawyers in Hunton’s Asia Pacific practice represent financial institutions, multinational corporations, governments, agencies, and investors in transactions and investments within and across national jurisdictions throughout the region, including developed markets such as Singapore, Taiwan, China, Japan, South Korea, and Australia, as well as emerging markets such as Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Lao P.D.R., the Philippines, Vietnam, and Papua New Guinea.
From our offices in Bangkok, Beijing, and Tokyo, reflecting the cross-disciplinary emphasis of the entire firm, our lawyers have a strong corporate, commercial, and finance focus. They are regularly ranked among the world’s top practitioners by respected legal and industry journals such as Chambers Asia-Pacific Guide 2025, Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2025, and The IFLR1000 2025.
With over 40 legal professionals based in the region, we have developed a strong understanding of the local business cultures and legal frameworks in most of the area’s major countries. We have excellent relationships with business leaders, economic groups, government agencies, and other local legal professionals. We also work closely with lawyers across the firm on Asia-Pacific related projects.
We have particularly strong experience in the energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, telecommunications, banking, and finance industries. For example, our work on the Monsoon Wind Power project, the largest wind power plant in Southeast Asia, and the first in the Lao P.D.R,, was recognized for Wind Deal of the Year as part of the Asia-Pacific Awards in the 2024 Project Finance International (PFI) Yearbook.
While our focus is primarily on inbound investments in the region, we also assist clients with strategic outbound investments to the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, relying on Hunton’s global office network for support. Most recently, some of our United States and Tokyo based team members represented Kyuden International Corporation in connection with its acquisition of a 40 percent interest in a portfolio of solar power projects, encompassing a total of 28 solar generation facilities located across California, Idaho, and North Carolina in the United States. This matter is significant as it marks Kyuden Group’s first investment in renewable energy within the United States.
